The First Transylvanian Railway , Hungarian: Első Erdélyi Vasút (EEV) was a railway company in the Kingdom of Hungary . The company's railway area is now in Romania .

history

While several companies built railway lines in Hungary after 1846, not a single meter was built in Transylvania. The reason for this was that the Austrian government supported the construction of the line Arad - Karlsburg - Hermannstadt - Schweinsdorf , while the Transylvanian Hungarian company wanted to build the line Großwardein - Klausenburg - Kronstadt . In 1864/65 the Vienna Reichsrat decided in favor of the Austrian plan. Because there was no financially strong company, construction began at the expense of the state treasury, only to later hand over the railway to a financially strong company.

The earthworks were carried out by Tiszavidéki Vasút (TVV). The work went slowly, in 1866 the budget was exhausted and the work was stopped. Now Bánya and Huta from Kronstadt got the building permit for the route and founded the First Siebenbürgener Eisenbahn AG and vouched for the money necessary for the construction. Construction proceeded more slowly than planned. The Arad – Karlsburg line was opened to traffic on December 22, 1868. On August 18, 1870, the Piski – Petroschen branch line was opened to traffic.

By connecting to the Theiss Railway in Arad, there were now Radna , Diemrich , Unterwintz , Brosz and Karlsburg ; then Hatzeg and Petroschen connected to the rail network.
