The First Cologne Barbershop Choir (EKBC) is a barbershop male choir in Cologne . It was founded in 1987 as the first of its kind in Germany.

The choir consists of around 40 singers of different ages. The repertoire includes traditional barbershop singing, ballads, pop songs and in-house arrangements. He also performs outside of Germany, for example, there have been guest appearances in Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA.

The choir is a member of BinG! e. V. , the German umbrella association of German barbershop choirs and is run by the North Rhine-Westphalia Choir Association .

Choir competitions

  • 1993 second place in the category "Jazz Vocal et cetera" at the NRW choir competition
  • Participation in the Bundeschorwettbewerb of the German Music Council in May 1994 in Fulda
  • Title as the best German barbershop male choir at the 6th German Barbershop Competition 2002 in Bremen, as well as at the 2004 and 2006 festival in Dortmund
  • Participation in the European Barbershop Convention 2005 in Brighton
  • Among the last three placements in the WDR competition "Best Choir in the West" in 2016
  • Participation in the Barbershop Music Festival 2018 in Munich (4th place among the German barbershop choirs, best German barbershop male choir)
  • Participation in the festival "Sing & Swing" 2018 of the ChorVerband Nordrhein-Westfalen eV (obtained title "Meisterchor 2018")

Concerts

  • 2017: Concert with the Harmunichs from Munich
  • 2018: Choir trip to Tuscany and concert together with the gospel choir "Voices of Heaven" from Pisa

further activities

Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays in the Kulturbunker Köln-Mülheim .

The last rehearsal before the summer vacation is traditionally held in public in Cologne's old town.
