Erwin Esser

Erwin Esser (born December 30, 1958 in Wesseling ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since June 23, 2014 he has been the full-time mayor of the city of Wesseling in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Erwin Esser grew up in the Wesseling district of Keldenich , where he lives with his wife. In 1978 he made his Abitur at the municipal Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium . After his military service , he completed an apprenticeship in high-level non-technical administrative service in Hürth , which included studying at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Cologne and graduating with a degree in administrative management . After various activities, in 1989 he was appointed head of the newly established construction management office of the city of Hürth. From 1992 to 1996 he was the branch manager of the French company JCDecaux in Cologne. He then took over the office for public institutions in the city of Pulheim . In 1999 he became head of the department for building management in the city of Wesseling, but later switched to the local waste disposal company and the municipal utilities as personnel manager. From 2012 to 2014 he finally held the office of an alderman for the city of Wesseling.

Esser became a member of the SPD in 1989 , for which he sat as an assessor and later as deputy chairman on the local board until 1992. From 1997 to 2010 he was also chairman of the Wesseling local association of his party. In 2014 he was elected full-time mayor of his hometown. In the runoff election that had become necessary, he won against his opponent Hans-Peter Haupt from the CDU with 53.77 percent of the vote.
