Erwin Junker (born April 15, 1930 in Nordrach , Black Forest ) is a German manufacturer. He is the owner and founder of the Junker Group .

Life and education

Erwin Junker was born in 1930 in the Black Forest community of Nordrach (near Offenburg ) as one of five children of the sawmill operators Gäzilia and Ludwig Junker . After attending elementary school in the Kolonie district, he worked for his parents' company for three years. Instead of traditionally taking over his parents' business, he decided to pursue a career in mechanical engineering . He began an apprenticeship at Haas in 1947 and one year later switched to the Prototyp company in Zell am Harmersbach, where he completed his apprenticeship as a journeyman mechanic and made his master's degree. Erwin Junker was an apprentice trainer in the mechanical engineering department for ten years and it was there that he invented a machine that grinds fully automatic tapping tips. He was appointed head of department and soon had the specially established department for grinding machines under himself. Until 1962 he worked for the company Prototyp. After disagreements with the management, he resigned and started his own company.

After Erwin Junker had received his master craftsman's certificate at the age of 28, he founded the company "Erwin Junker Maschinen- und Apparatebau" in Nordrach in 1962, with a guarantee from his father of 15,000 marks and equity savings of 8,000 marks. A disused flour mill served as the operating building. Erwin Junker made contacts on his travels in order to expand abroad later. Among other things, his company was one of the first to maintain trade relations with China and the Soviet Union. In the following years the company premises around the mill continued to grow and expanded internationally. In 1992 Erwin Junker decided to take over three Czech manufacturers of grinding machines. In 1995 LTA Lufttechnik GmbH, manufacturer of filtration systems, was incorporated into the Junker Group . The Brazilian grinding machine manufacturer ZEMA Zselics Ltda. also to the group of companies. In August 2016, the entrepreneur founded the Erwin Junker Foundation to create the prerequisites that, from the manufacturer's point of view, the JUNKER Group does not fall into "foreign" hands or is split up, but can instead remain in its current structure and continue to operate on the world market . In 2018 the JUNKER Group had over 1,500 employees at 14 locations.

Innovations

Even as a child, Erwin Junker had an extraordinary inventive talent. Back then, when there were no spare parts for his gramophone in the municipality of Nordrach, he quickly built them himself. By 2018, the Junker Group had registered over 80 patents, including pioneering technologies in the grinding industry. In addition, Erwin Junker receives the rights to the Quickpoint technology, invented in 1984, an arrangement of the grinding tool in relation to the tool axis. With the new point grinding, all possible contours could be realized in just one clamping. The computer-controlled grinding wheel follows the programmed contour with pinpoint accuracy and processes almost any material, from plastic to hard metal.

Political, social and cultural engagement

Erwin Junker feels a strong connection to his home community. At the age of 24 he took over the management of the local Horex motorcycle club, and at 29 he was in charge of the volunteer fire department. Erwin Junker is committed to the preservation and renovation of the local church. In 1962 Erwin Junker was elected to the local council and received more votes than any candidate in Nordrach before. For the next ten years he acted as the deputy mayor. In addition, he is elected to the supervisory board of Volksbank Zell and is an advisory board member in the business association. In addition, Erwin Junker was appointed honorary commander of the volunteer fire brigade in Nordrach in 1968 because of his extraordinary services. In 1987 Erwin Junker was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. He gives this back in response to his disappointment with the German rule of law. In 1990 he was made an honorary citizen of Nordrach because of his services.

Social Commitment

Windeck Castle

In 2018 Erwin Junker acquires the late romantic Windeck Castle in Bühl / Baden, thereby securing the preservation of the historical monument. Among other things, he also owns the Finkenzeller Hof in Nordrach.

Others

The Junker Group and Erwin Junker own several of their own company helicopters and aircraft, among other things, to get customers and spare parts quickly from A to B and to be quickly available between the plants in the Czech Republic and Germany.

Erwin Junker has been married to Marlies Junker (née Nennker, * 1942) since 1997. He has a daughter, Ingeborg Junker (* 1959), and a son, Manfred Junker (* 1960), both from their first marriage.
