Erwin Nöbbe (born March 29, 1883 in Flensburg ; † March 3, 1948 there ) was a German painter. He was also active as a historian , teacher , numismatist and journalist .

Life

His father Jacob Nöbbe was already active as a painter. Erwin Nöbbe studied from 1901 in Berlin at the art academy , then at the art school in Weimar with Ludwig von Hofmann . In 1905 he returned to Flensburg. In the winter semesters 1905/06 and 1907/08 he and his father took part in evening classes from Heinz Wedding at the applied arts college in Flensburg. Out of doubts about his artistic talent, he occupied himself with urban and prehistoric topics. Seeing knowledge in the field of numismatics brought him the position of assistant at the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Flensburg in 1907. 1909–1913 he was a curator at the Museum of Patriotic Antiquities in Kiel, and during World War I he was a draftsman in an infantry battalion. After the end of the war Nöbbe returned to Flensburg. After he unsuccessfully applied for the position of museum director in Flensburg in 1927, he turned to the Danish minority and became a journalist. Since 1946 he was a drawing teacher at Duborg Skolen .

Erwin Nöbbe never completely gave up his artistic activity and primarily painted landscapes of his homeland and was inspired by various Danish painters. In 1937 he was involved in the redesign of the Flensburg coat of arms .
