Erwin Topf (born December 22, 1898 in Meiningen , † June 12, 1981 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist .

life and work

Erwin Topf, born in Meiningen in 1898, was an editor and SPD functionary.

Topf joined the SPD in 1923 during his university days. Under the name 'Jan Bargenhusen' he wrote contributions to the world stage . He experienced the " seizure of power " by the Nazis as an employee of the Berliner Tageblatt . When it became clear to him that his idea of ​​freedom of expression would not be realized in the current situation, he became a soldier and rose to the rank of colonel. From 1941 he was in contact with the Kreisau Circle . He wrote an affidavit and witnessed Wolfram Sievers' defense in the 1946/47 medical trial .

After the war he worked as an editor again. From 1946 to 1958 he worked as head of the “Economy” section of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit .

Erwin Topf died on June 12, 1981 at the age of 82.
