from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Erysichthon ( Greek  Ἐρυσίχθων ) is a figure in Greek mythology .

He was the son of King Kekrops I of Athens and Aglauros . He is said to have fetched a wooden picture of the goddess Eileithyia from the island of Delos and died on the return journey while his father was still alive. After Jerome he built the Temple of Apollo on Delos. He found his final resting place in the Attic coastal town of Prasiai , from where the annual pilgrimage to the Apollo shrine on Delos started.
