The Chinese Archdiocese of Anqing (also Anking , Latin Archidioecesis Nganchimensis ) was founded as a diocese on February 21, 1929 , before it was an Apostolic Vicariate , and on April 11, 1946 it was raised to an archdiocese . Its suffragans are the dioceses of Bengbu and Wuhu .
It covers an area of 38,000 km² and counted in 1950
parishes . Mainly looked after by Jesuits , at that time there were 6 diocesan and 26 religious priests as well as 46 religious sisters .
28,268 Catholics in 25His last and so far only bishop , the Spaniard and Jesuit Federico Melendro Gutiérrez SJ, died on October 28, 1978. The current bishop is Joseph Liu Xinhong .
