The archfisherman ( Chloroceryle aenea ) is a bird and belongs to the kingfishers family . The arch fisherman is one of the smallest members of the family. He inhabits the tropics of America from Mexico to Bolivia .
description
The only 13 cm long ore fisherman weighs 18 g. Like most kingfishers, it has a short tail and a long beak. Like many members of the family, this species is also very colorful. The top is olive-green, the underside is orange-red, the middle of the belly is white. Females have a narrow green chest band. The juveniles are similar to the adults, but have a paler reddish underside, no breast band and have speckles on the flank and wings.
Two subspecies are distinguished: The southern nominate form C. a. aenea has two rows of white spots on the wings, while the northern subspecies C. a. stictoptera has three to four rows of spots on the wings and also a barely visible white spot on the under tail-coverts .
Occurrence
The range of the ore fisherman stretches from southern Mexico across Central America to western Ecuador , central Bolivia and Brazil . It also occurs in Trinidad . It lives by small rivers in dense forests.
nutrition
Like many kingfishers, the ore fisherman often hunts from a branch just above the water. He preyed on small fish and tadpoles by throwing himself upside down into the water. Insects supplement the diet and are caught in the open air.
Reproduction
The bird digs a 40 cm long, horizontal brood tube in steep banks, heaps of earth or occasionally in a termite mound. The clutch consists of three to four white eggs.

The species is considered harmless due to its large distribution area, it is classified by the IUCN as (= least concern - not endangered).
