Educational science state examination in Bavaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The educational science state examination (EWS) is part of the state examination for all teaching positions at public schools in Bavaria .

EWS degree

The study of educational sciences is a compulsory part of the teacher training course and runs parallel to the study of the respective teaching and didactic subjects. It consists of the three sub-areas of general education , school education and psychology. It is concluded with the educational science state examination (EWS).

The content and the services to be provided for the EWS exam, which must be achieved in the course of the course, are regulated in the teaching examination regulations I (LPO I, as of 2008) and differ slightly depending on the subject and type of school. The requirements of the LPO are implemented by the individual universities in study and examination regulations and vary at the different locations. In general, at least 25 credit points must be achieved in education and psychology, including at least seven credit points each in general and school education, and at least ten credit points in psychology. The teaching posts for elementary, special, middle and vocational schools must also complete eight credit points in the social sciences subjects. Credit points must be adapted to the respective ECTS point system at the various universities; therefore, the purely numerical amounts can vary or more ECTS points must be achieved.

In addition, the written term paper (admission paper) can be written in one of the EWS subjects.

EWS exam

Following the university credit points and taking into account the minimum period of study, the educational science state examination (EWS) is taken as part of the state examination for all teaching positions at public schools in Bavaria. Depending on whether the exam is taken under the new (LPO I 2008) or the old law (LPO I 2002), there are different provisions regarding the work to be performed. Since the exam according to the old LPO expires in 2016 at the latest, this article is based on the provisions of the new LPO. A sub-area - general, school education or psychology - can be selected beforehand for the examination and specified when registering for the examination. The exam itself lasts four hours.

The registration period begins about nine months before the start of the examination and lasts two months. For example, if a student wants to take an exam in the spring of 2015, he has the opportunity from June 2 to August 1, 2014 to contact the examination office. The actual exam would take place between February 6 and April 10, 2015. In addition, there would be the option of deregistering by January 19, 2015 at the latest.

The written state exam can be rewritten once to improve grades and repeated if it is not passed.

School pedagogy

The school pedagogy sub-area primarily deals with issues that deal more closely with everyday school practice.
