It Culleram
Es Culleram ( Spanish Cueva d'es Cuieram sometimes also Cueva d'es Cuyeram ) is a cave near Sant Vincent de sa Cala in the northeast of the island of Ibiza . The cave was used by the Phoenicians from the 5th to the 2nd century BC. . AD as the goddess Tanit sacred temple used. The temple complex fell into disrepair with the disappearance of the Phoenicians and was forgotten. It was rediscovered in 1907 . Some of the cave passages have collapsed and have not yet been fully explored. To date, four rooms with a total of around 300 m² are known.
During excavations, numerous terracotta works from the Punic period were found in the cave , as well as a gold treasure, the origin of which is still unclear. The terracottas are now in the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza Town . Bones found in the cave also indicate human sacrifice .
Es Culleram can be visited on your own all year round (bring your flashlight!). Every first Saturday of the month there are guided tours that start in Cala de Sant Vicent .
