Es Figueral de Son Real (' Fig Field of Son Real') is a prehistoric site on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the municipality of Santa Margalida in the region ( comarca ) Es Plà or Plà de Mallorca , near the north coast of the island. The site from the Vortalaiotic, which was also inhabited at the beginning of the Talaiot culture (also Talayot culture) and during the Islamic period, was excavated from 1965 by Guillem Rosselló Bordoy and Juan Camps Coll on behalf of the Museu de Mallorca .

location

Located on the MA-12 road

Es Figueral de Son Real is located in the Son Real area within the municipality of Santa Margalida. Son Real is the name of a former country estate that stretched on the coast between the mouths of the Torrent de Son Bauló and the Torrent de Son Real , two torrents that drain the water of heavy rains north into the Mediterranean from the interior of the island . The estate is now parceled out and is crossed from northwest to southeast by the MA-12 road, which connects Alcúdia to Artà via Can Picafort .

Parts of the estate were purchased by the Govern de les Illes Balears , the government of the Balearic Islands, and are run by the regional government as Finca pública de Son Real . This includes an information center and a small museum in the main and ancillary buildings of the former estate. The archaeological site Es Figueral is located about 400 meters southeast of the buildings on the southeast side of the area of Finca pública and for the most part on their site north of the road. A talaiotic sanctuary was destroyed by the construction of the road. To the south of the MA-12 there are other remains of the site, the outlines of which can only be seen in aerial photographs.

description

Structure cut into the rock on the north side of the hill

The area of the archaeological site Es Figueral has a diameter of about 50 meters on the site of the Finca pública de Son Real north of the road. The remains of foundations of horseshoe-shaped and kidney-shaped buildings from the time from 1100 to 850 BC are lined up on a small hill here. Chr. Irregular to each other. In addition to the stacked structures, in the north of the hill there is the case, unique on the islands, of a structure cut into the rock, which, however, cannot be dated.

According to radiocarbon dating , a naviform structure was found around 960 BC. BC (± 120 years) and around 920 BC. Chr. (± 80 years) abandoned. Both soil samples used for dating come from Straten on the hill, which contained talaiotic pottery. Further ceramic finds show that the place was settled again in Islamic times, around the year 990 (± 80 years). A rubbish dump found on a building provided information about eating habits at the time it was used. Animal remains were discovered, including dogs, shellfish and geese.
