William Waldren

William Henre Waldren (born February 5, 1924 in New York , † November 26, 2003 in Oxford ) was an American sculptor , painter and prehistoric artist .

Life

William Waldren studied at the Art Students League of New York and the Académie Julian in Paris . In 1959 he came to Mallorca for the first time on vacation . He settled in Deià in western Mallorca, where in 1962 he co-founded the artist group Els Deu d'Es Teix. In Mallorca he developed his interest in the prehistory and early history of the island. In 1962 he founded a private archaeological museum Deià Archaeological Museum Research Center (DAMARC).

From 1965 he carried out excavations at the Es Figueral de Son Real site together with Guillermo Rosselló Bordoy . From 1968 to 1975 excavations were carried out at the Son Matge rock shelter . Skeletal remains of the extinct species of goat Myotragus balearicus were found there. From 1973 to 1981 excavations took place at the archaeological site Torralba d'en Salord in Menorca .

In 1975 he began studying archeology at Linacre College of the University of Oxford and received his doctorate at Oxford 1,981th

Many of the exhibits that he found during his research on Mallorca are now in the Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals .
