The ash (old name Krebsbach and Fischbach) is an approximately 8 kilometer long river in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The ash originally rose from the Egelsee in the Vorarlberg town of Feldkirch and flowed into the Rhine south of Benders . The course of the river has been regulated and straightened since the 1840s. This enabled the agricultural profitability of the areas flowed through to be increased enormously. The mouth of the ash tree was moved down the Rhine to Gamprin to compensate for the backwater caused by the Rhine as a result of the increase in the river bed. With the construction of the Liechtenstein inland canal , the ash was diverted into it. The ash has a catchment area of 25.8 km², primarily in Liechtenstein. It flows through the extensive reed areas of the communities of Mauren and Eschen . In the last few years, the river began to be revitalized, as the straightening had led to extensive flooding. The Egelsee, which was drained 200 years ago, was reactivated and is now used as a retention basin. The width of the ash was also increased in many places to give the water more space.
