The Eschenstraße in the district town Düren ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ) is an ancient city road . It starts at the intersection of Friedrichstrasse / Nideggener Strasse / Oberstrasse / Zülpicher Strasse and ends at Chlodwigplatz .

history

Wenceslaus Hollar's city map from 1634 shows a gate in the Düren city fortifications , which he describes as the Esch gate with an adjacent hereditary forest . This gate is mentioned in a document as early as 1361. The field name Im Esch does not come from the tree species ash, but describes an unhedged field which, due to its large size, belonged to several or many owners. In contrast to this, there was still the Kamp , the enclosed property of an individual.

Eschstrasse was expanded in 1901.
