history

Natural monument sign and information board at the Este pond

The ash pond is the last still visible historical sinkhole in the area, which was created by leaching the salt dome below the surface of the earth . In the 17th century, people used the pond as a Rottekuhle for the extraction of plant fibers from flax .

By the beginning of 2007, the ash pond was largely cleared of mud in order to improve the ecological quality of the water. For 2009 the city of Ronnenberg planned the installation of an information board and the installation of an art object at the pond as a station on the landscape art path planned at the time on Benther Berg .
