The State Escola Secundária Fernão Mendes Pinto ( ESFMP ) is a Portuguese school of secondary and vocational school in Pragal , in the district of Almada in the Margem Sul do Tejo . It is named after the navigator, explorer and author Fernão Mendes Pinto , who died in Pragal in 1583.
The ESFMP is known for its German lessons and is one of the five Portuguese schools that take part in the Federal Foreign Office 's global initiative “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH). It also maintains direct international relationships and exchange projects, in Germany with the Max-Planck-Gymnasium (Dortmund) .
history
The school was founded in 1965 as Secção de Almada do Liceu D. João de Castro , as a branch in Almada of the Lisbon Liceu D. João de Castro . With the school year 1972/73 the school became independent and renamed the Liceu Nacional de Almada . It was housed in the central square Praça de São João Baptista in Almada, in today's Complexo do Fórum Municipal Romeu Correia .
With the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the new democratic government turned increasingly to the education sector and also set up a large number of new schools. In 1975 the Liceu Nacional de Almada moved to its current location in Pragal.
With the school year 1978/79, the school was renamed Escola Secundária de Almada , before it was given its current name with the school year 1987/88.
In autumn 2018 it was announced that David Burmann and Alexej Feinstein would be visiting the school for several days in April 2019.
