Eselstet was a village in the Saalekreis area .

geography

The former village of Eselstet was located at the Eselwiese in Querfurt . The few remaining buildings belong to Querfurt today.

history

In the 9th century there was a village called Esenstedt in this place. There is evidence of a mill and the chapel . In the 13th or 14th century, the place became a desert . It is believed that the residents moved to Querfurt.

Development of the name

The place is occupied as Isinstede in 1205 and as Hesenstede in 1328. It was not until the 16th century, when it was already desolate, that the name changed to Eselstedt (e).

Chapel of St. Bruno

The Eselstet chapel was built in the 13th century and became a pilgrimage chapel in the 14th century , consecrated to St. Bruno of Querfurt . In 1721, Duke Christian von Sachsen-Weißenfels converted the chapel into an accommodation. The upper floor served as a ballroom and the lower as a market tavern. Today it is known under the name Wiesenhaus and is used as a residential building.
