Esiko von Merseburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asic or Esiko von Merseburg († November 22, 1004 in Löbschütz an der Mulde) was Count of Merseburg and Imperial Truchsess .

There is uncertainty about his parentage. He was probably the son of Count Siegfried II of Merseburg ( von Uslar-Gleichen names Adalbero of Saxony ).

He was first mentioned in 995, when his fiefdom was transferred to the episcopal church in Meissen. Perhaps the document from the year 999, which converted his fiefdom in the places Kuckenberg (Querfurt district) and the twelve Königshufen in Obhausen into property, represents compensation for the confiscated fief. No document gives information about the exact location of his county, which is probably in the Kuckenburg area, i.e. in northern Hassegau .

He claimed Merseburg, Allstedt (near Sangerhausen) and Dornburg (an der Saale) against Margrave Ekkehard I of Meißen and kept them occupied.

In 984 he was at the meeting on the Asselburg against Heinrich the quarrel .

In 990 he took part in the fight in support of Duke Miseco against Duke Boleslav Chrobry .

As after Otto III. After the death of Margrave Ekkehard I of Meißen, he claimed the throne and first tried to seize the palatinate places. Esiko, the "faithful" of the new King Heinrich II , claimed the forts of Merseburg, Allstedt and Dornburg until Heinrich himself on the 24th July came to Merseburg to receive the homage of the Saxon princes.

In 1002 Esiko was present at the reception of the newly elected Heinrich II in Merseburg.
