Franz Hochegger (born October 4, 1815 in Innsbruck , † September 26, 1875 in Hall in Tirol ) was an Austrian educator .

Franz Hochegger studied in Innsbruck, completed his habilitation in 1851 as a private lecturer at the University of Vienna and was successively professor at the Theresianum in Vienna, professor of philology in Pavia and, since 1859, in Prague, where he wrote in the brochure Österreichs Gymnasien and the Jesuits the fight against the clerical Took up educational establishments.

From then on he moved to Vienna to head the academic grammar school , and in particular in the magazine for Austrian grammar schools that he and Hermann Bonitz directed , he put his name in the place for a contemporary reorganization of grammar schools.

With Adolf Beer he edited: The Progress in Education in the Cultural States of Europe (Vienna 1867–68, 2 vols.). One of his earlier poetic works should be emphasized : Suleika (Vienna 1845); a comedy written in Spanish taste: for his lady life itself remained unprinted. He died on September 26, 1875 in the insane asylum in Hall (Tyrol).
