Alfred Ludwig (Indologist)

Alfred Ludwig (born October 9, 1832 in Vienna , † June 12, 1912 in Prague ) was an Austrian Indologist .

Life

After attending the Academic Gymnasium (Vienna) (1844–1852), Alfred Ludwig studied classical philology with Hermann Bonitz and Sanskrit with Anton Boller at the University of Vienna from October 1852 . With a scholarship from the Austrian Minister of Education, he studied at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin from 1855 to 1857 , where Albrecht Weber , August Boeckh and Moriz Haupt were his teachers. In October 1858 he completed his habilitation in Classical Philology in Vienna. In 1860 he became an associate professor of Classical Philology and Comparative Linguistics at the University of Prague, and in 1871 a full professor.
