The escalating wall is a wooden wall or wall that is usually between 180 and 250 cm high. It is used on obstacle courses for the military , fire departments and the police . The aim of the training is to overcome high obstacles without further help in order to be able to continue the respective assignment. The official name in the Bundeswehr is wooden wall ; in the fire department it is called an obstacle wall.

The term is derived from the French "l'escalade", which means "climbing".

overcoming

There are two ways to overcome the escalation wall without help:

  1. You take a run up to the side, grasp the wall with the hand that is facing it, push yourself up the wall with the foot on the same side and hook yourself up with the other foot. Then you let yourself roll over. This method is preferred by the military because you can get very flat over the obstacle, so the enemy is less noticeable and you have one hand free with which you can hold your weapon.
  2. The competitor is running straight towards the wall, pushing one foot off the front of the wall and pushing himself up. At the same time, both hands grab the upper edge of the wall and you pull yourself up. This process is practiced by the athletes in fire fighting .
