Esko Laine

Esko Laine (born September 25, 1961 ) is a Finnish double bass player .

Career

Esko Laine studied first at the Hyvinkää Conservatory in Finland, then at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts as well as at the Geneva Conservatory and the Menuhin Academy in Gstaad. He has won several competitions, including Isle of Man and the International ARD Competition .

At the age of 18 he became a member of the Finnish National Opera Orchestra. He has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 1986 , from 1999 to 2001 and since 2008 as a solo bassist. He is a member of the ensemble “Die Berliner” and the Philharmonic Octet. He is also a lecturer at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Herbert von Karajan Academy and for master classes in Finland, Sweden, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. Since 2000 he has been teaching at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and is professor for double bass at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin .
