Espiunca is a place and a former municipality in Portugal .

history

In 1758 Espiunca was owned by the Braganza family . A Benedictine monastery had existed here for a long time, but this was abandoned along with other smaller monasteries in order to build the Avé-Maria monastery in Porto .

Espiunca remained an independent municipality until the territorial reform in Portugal in 2013 , when it was merged with Canelas to form the new municipality Canelas e Espiunca .

Espiunca was the seat of a parish of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( Concelho ) of Arouca , in the Aveiro district . The last 384 people lived in the community (as of June 30, 2011).
