Escariz is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Arouca . 2222 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011). The river Rio Antuã has its source here, at Seixeira.

Culture and sights

There is a megalithic complex in the community . The listed dolmens ( Dólmen da Aliviada, Mamoa 1 da Aliviada, Dólmen pintado de Escariz ) are part of a series of burial sites that stretch from Sever do Vouga to Arouca .

Other architectural monuments of the municipality are two stone crosses and the single-nave baroque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Escariz , also named Igreja de Santo André after its patron saint .
