Essendon West is a district of the Australian metropolis Melbourne , 11 km northwest of the city center. It is bordered to the west by Steele Creek , to the north by Rosehill Road, to the east by Afton Street and Hoffmans Road and to the south by the Maribyrnong River . The district consists mainly of residential areas.

Essendon West Post Office opened in 1924.
