Estanislao Mejía

Estanislao Mejía Castro (born November 13, 1882 in Hueyotlipan , Tlaxcala , † June 15, 1967 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican composer and music teacher .

Mejía founded the Escuela Nacional de Música (ENM, in German: National Music School ) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), whose director he was for four years and then became director of the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . In this role he founded the Orquestra Sinfónica Nacional , which was dedicated to the performance of contemporary Mexican composers. He organized several music competitions as well as the Segundo Congreso Nacional de Música .

Mejía composed a. a. Symphonies and musical poems as well as the opera Edith . He has also written articles for musical magazines and a three-volume compendium of Mexican music.
