Ester Rota Gasperoni

Ester Rota Gasperoni (born 1935 in Vigevano , Italy ) is an Italian author of children's and youth literature .

Her father was an anti-fascist and had to hide from the Italian fascists in northern Italy at the end of World War II. She first emigrated with her family to Ecuador and later moved to the United States to study at Wellesley College and Columbia University . She led a restless wandering life that took her back to Italy, India and France , where she finally settled permanently in 1977. After first writing articles and short stories in English and Italian, she wrote her first novel, Orage sur le lac, in French in 1995 and kept that language in her other novels. For her work she received several youth literature awards in France.

Ester Rota Gasperoni's brother is the mathematician Gian-Carlo Rota , she has two children and five grandchildren.
