Esther Petsche

Esther Petsche (* 1973 ) is a Swiss filmmaker and graphic artist .

Career

Petsche grew up in Germany and has lived in Switzerland since 2000 . After studying fashion design , she worked for two years as Frida Parmeggiani's costume assistant for the production of “ The Ring of the Nibelung ” at the Zurich Opera House under the direction of Robert Wilson . For nine years she worked as a cultural manager and program manager for the “Unternehmens Mitte” cultural center in Basel . There she designed exhibitions and accompanied reading series with film works. At the same time she began to work as a freelance graphic artist and filmmaker. In her cinematic work, she primarily deals with social and ecological issues. She realized u. a. commissioned film work for the Animal Welfare Association Basel Regional, the Drumrum room school and the Office for Environment and Energy of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.

In spring 2016, together with journalist Samuel Schlaefli , she produced the short documentary film “The climate changers” about civil society activities during the historic COP21 climate conference in Paris, which was shown as part of the “official selection” of the “9th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival” . In March 2019, the joint film "Die Friedensköche am Rio Napo" (The amazon changers - cook to empower) was released about oil extraction and displacement of indigenous groups along the Rio Napo in the Amazon region of Ecuador, as well as communal ecotourism as an alternative to the destruction of the rainforest . The documentary will be shown at various film festivals around the world and will celebrate its Swiss premiere in October 2019.
