Estonian bacon pork
The Estonian bacon pig ( Estonian : eesti peekon ) is a meat pig race from Estonia .
Breeding history
In Estonia , indigenous long-eared sows were crossed with boars of the Large White , German Landrace , Finnish Pig and Danish Landrace breeds , with the latter having the greatest influence. In 1961 the breed was recognized.

There are 14 boar lines and over 30 sow families.
The Estonian bacon is very often used as a mother breed in crossbreeding.
Occurrence
The main breeding centers are Nowy Dwor in Hrodsenskaja Woblasz in Belarus and numerous other state breeding farms, most of which are in Estonia . The breed is also kept in the Oblasts of Nizhny Novgorod , Tambov , Kaliningrad , Lipetsk , Pskow , Vologda , Ivanovo and Tomsk and in the Primorye region in Russia and in Kazakhstan and Moldova .
In 1980 there were 122,800 purebred animals.
