Ethel Afamado

Ethel Afamado (born April 25, 1940 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan singer and writer.

Afamado, who can fall back on violin, bassoon, singing and guitar training, also took part in theater courses with Juan Carlos Carrasco and Jorge Triador . Afamado is particularly concerned with traditional Sephardic songs. She set over 70 poems by Uruguayan and other Hispanic American poets to music and performed with guitar accompaniment at numerous recitals. She also composed incidental music for plays. From 1987 to 1997 she performed the solo concert Canción e imagen together with her sister Gladys Afamado . She also presented the concerts Mujeres, sus voces, nuestra voz , Caminos de palabras and Canciones para sentir and also gave three performances at the side of the actress Maruja Santullo under the title Canto y poesía . In 1993 she contributed three of her settings to Jorge Arbeleches' Cassette Agape . Afamado received various awards for her literary activities. At the invitation of the Uruguayan Chamber of Deputies , she took part in the 2001 event in honor of Juana de Ibarbourou in the Palacio Legislativo .
