Etihad Rail is a transportation company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The company, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is the UAE's national railway company, newly established in 2009. It is initially building an approximately 1,200-kilometer rail network for freight and passenger traffic with a total investment of USD 30 billion. The first section of the route from Ruwais to the Liwa oases (a total of 264 km) was put into operation in early 2016.
The construction of further routes is planned for the next few years. The network will then connect all seven emirates with one another.
DB Cargo and Etihad Rail have founded the joint venture, Etihad Rail DB Operations LLC , which operates the traffic on the first route to transport sulfur .
