The Etter Sons AG is the oldest continuously operated and still owned by the founding family commercial distillery in Switzerland . The company is now in the fourth generation.

history

The Etter Soehne AG Distillery company was founded in 1870 by Paul Johann Etter (1846–1938) at Poststrasse 23 in Zug . But already in 1823 had his father, farmer Johann Baptist Etter (1800-1872), started on his farm "Berglihof" in Menzingen kirsch to burn a sideline. On the one hand for personal use and on the other hand to cure diseases, especially in his cows .

In 1980 the company moved from Poststrasse 23 to a new building on the outskirts of Zug. One year later, after more than 110 years of exclusive cherry distillation of Zuger Kirsch AOP, the successive expansion of the range to other types of fruit began. In 2007 Etter distilled his first whiskey , the Johnett, named after the third generation boss, Hans (John) Etter (* 1949), who ran the company until 2012. The single malt whiskey is still matured in Pinot noir barrels from the Lucerne chestnut tree and stored in the ammunition depots in the Höllgrotten until it is ripe .
