Ettl Bros. (Ettl Brothers, in English the Ettl brothers) is an Austrian mixed martial arts organizer and was named after the brothers Gerhard and Michael Ettl .

history

Origins

The prehistory to the actual establishment of Ettl Bros. begins with the fact that the Ettl brothers were active martial artists themselves and are known within this scene. After their active career as a fighter they mainly worked as a trainer in their own martial arts school. During their career they also organized tournaments in which martial artists of mixed martial arts faced each other. At the beginning (from 1999 to 2003) they organized the “Grazer Fight Night”, which was best known through the participation of Ian Freeman at the 2001 and 2003 Fight Night. During this time, the media interest began to increase and a wide audience opened up to the mixed martial arts events. Not only did the newspapers report, but also the television broadcast some reports about the events and even in Germany and the Czech Republic people wrote about them. In 2000, the Austrian state television ORF broadcast reports on the Ettl brothers and their events. Numerous celebrities such as actor Marc Keller , singer DJ Ötzi and catch legend Otto Wanz were enthusiastic guests at the Ettl brothers' events. After that it became quiet in the Austrian MMA scene, the Ettl brothers withdrew from martial arts between 2003 and 2006, until they were reorganized in 2007 under the name Ettl Bros. as a newly founded organizer.

Mainstream rise

Ettl Bros. has been organizing two major events every year since 2007, one of which is the Newcomer Challenge and the other is the Cage Fight Series (CFS). The CFS are professional fights in mixed martial arts , while the Newcomer Challenge is looking for new talent. With the start of the Cage Fight Series, the Austrian TV broadcaster ATV was also won as a partner. The resulting reports brought the Cage Fight Series closer to a broad audience who could not do anything with mixed martial arts.

The so-called cage fight or mixed martial arts fight is also regarded as the purest and toughest form of martial arts and is one of the most brutal sports in the world. This type of fight already existed in ancient Greece in pankration and was an Olympic discipline that was a mixture of boxing and wrestling and largely got by without rules. The world's best known and most successful event is the Ultimate Fighting Championship from the USA . On April 21, 2007 the first Cage Fight Series (CFS) was organized by Ettl Bros. in the ice rink in Graz in Austria under the motto "Who is the toughest fighter in Austria" and is now known throughout Europe. Martial artists of different styles compete against each other in a cage, whereby the fights are subject to precisely defined rules and are therefore also sanctioned. The regulations include the MMA jury, international commands, weighing of the fighters, the duration of the fight in the MMA fight, the combat clothing, the weight classes, permitted techniques, prohibited techniques, the evaluation of the fight and doping regulations. In 2008, 10,000 euros in prize money was fought for, making it the most highly endowed mixed martial arts tournament in Europe and one of the largest mixed martial arts events in Europe. The popularity of the Cage Fight Series rose due to professional marketing and increased media exposure; Series 6 was also commented on and broadcast by the martial arts broadcaster GnP TV . The media attention is reflected in countless newspaper reports, magazines, broadcasts and, among other things, reports ( “Cage Fight in Austria” ). Well-known fighters of the Cage Fight Series are: Gerald Turek , Nandor Guelmino , Predrag Krsikapa , Sascha Weinpolter , Philipp Schranz , Rene Wollinger , Sanja Sucevic , Jasminka Cive and many others.

Newcomer Challenge

At the annual Newcomer Challenge, young talent is sought and promoted. Here talented and success-hungry new fighters who are still unknown get a chance to prove their skills and get into the cage. It is held according to the same principle as the CFS and the participants have the opportunity to start a great MMA career or to get a career boost.

regulate

The events are sanctioned according to the regulations of the Mixed Martial Arts Sport Association Austria , which is the Austrian association for mixed martial arts.

Cage

Cage of the Cage Fight Series / Newcomer Challenge

A commercially approved boxing ring with four ropes in accordance with the Olympic AIBA standard, a secured platform or a tested octagon serves as a battleground . It has a diameter of 8 meters and is surrounded by a chain link fence. Access is via a built-in door and the surface consists of sports mats. The octagonal shape, which is intended against hiding in a corner, and the high border make it impossible to escape. In addition, it is used for safety to prevent the fighters from falling out and the risk of injury. Originally the UFC had the sole rights to this type of event, but these were released to other organizers in 2001.

Team Ettl Bros.

Ettl Bros. not only organizes these events, but also provides its own combat team called "Team Ettl Bros.". This is obvious after the Ettl brothers were active as fighters themselves, run their own combat school and work as trainers.

The most successful fighters of the Ettl Bros. fighting team are:

  • Predrag Krsikapa, multiple Austrian MMA champion
  • Sascha Weinpolter, multiple Austrian MMA champion
  • René Wollinger, reigning Austrian light heavyweight champion and MAXFC European MMA champion
  • Jasminka Cive , Austrian champion and MAXFC world champion in women's MMA
  • Harald Fischer, multiple Austrian MMA champion
  • Stefan Traunmüller
