resume

Ettl was born in Graz and is an Austrian citizen. Gerhard Ettl received martial arts lessons from his father at an early age and learned various martial arts. Later he opened his own martial arts school and taught many students from all over Austria in the relatively untouched field of mixed martial arts . After his active career as a fighter, he and his brother Michael founded the Ettl Bros. (Ettl Brothers), an event agency for mixed martial arts in Austria and organizes mixed martial arts events himself. This helped freefight or mixed martial arts to gain popularity. They are therefore considered to be the co-founders of the Mixed Martial Arts (mixed martial arts) scene and freefighting in Austria and the initiators of the Mixed Martial Arts Sport Association Austria , the MMA association in Austria. In November 2013 Ettl brought the first German-language MMA book to the market with The most effective techniques .

Martial arts and styles

training

Gerhard Ettl began training various martial arts at the age of eight, because his father Gerhard Ettl Senior was already judoka and jiu-jitsu-ka , who was trained by a grandmaster. He gave his son training sessions several times a day and taught him how to fight man against man. In the beginning he mainly dealt with judo and wrestling , but at the age of 11 he also started with taekwondo . Boxing was added at the age of 12 and five years later Gerhard Ettl already passed the test for black belt (2nd Dan) with the then Karate and Kickboxing President Peter Land, making him the youngest 2nd Dan holder in Austria. At a young age he also began so-called comparative fights against other martial artists and street fighters. These were carried out with full contact and without any protective equipment , and there was no division into weight classes . In 2003 he ended his martial arts career and took some time off before returning to the mixed martial arts stage in Austria as a trainer and organizer.

organizer

As the first MMA event, Gerhard Ettl organized the unofficial fight series "Style vs. Style" in Austria together with Alexander Lindner and Allan Frank. At that time, the orientation was based on the video game Streetfighter, in which fighters of different fighting styles competed in full contact with almost no rules. Mixed Martial Arts has now been standardized in Austria and follows official rules, which are sanctioned by the Mixed Martial Arts Sport Association Austria, the ordinary MMA association in Austria. Since 2007 the Ettl Bros. has been organizing the Cage Fight Series , which is one of the largest MMA events in Europe. Two major events take place every year, on the one hand the Newcomer Challenge and on the other hand the main event, the Cage Fight Series. In the Newcomer Challenge, new talents are to be discovered and promoted. On the program of the CFS are professional fights in the mixed martial arts, whereby the toughest fighters in Austria are to be determined. In 2008 the Cage Fight Series determined the 10,000 Euro Champion and offered the highest prize money in Europe. The popularity of the Cage Fight Series rose due to professional marketing and increasing media coverage, as the Cage Fight Series 6 was commented on and broadcast by the martial arts broadcaster "GnP TV".
