The Polycom, Inc. , headquartered in California's San José is an American manufacturer of telecommunications equipment . The company primarily produces audio and video conferencing solutions, employed 3,774 people in 2013 and had a turnover of 1.37 billion euros.

Polycom was acquired by a Siris Capital Group company in September 2016 for around US $ 2 billion .

Polycom was involved in the creation of major audio formats. In October 2001, Polycom bought PictureTel Corporation , from which it acquired the rights to the Siren family of formats. As part of Study Group 16 at ITU-T , Polycom was involved in the standardization of the Siren-based methods G.722.1 and G.719 .

The company holds several software patents on parts of the algorithms used in these formats and issues licenses for use with costs.

In August 2018, Polycom was acquired by competitor Plantronics for $ 2 billion.
