Ettore Caporali

Ettore Caporali (born August 17, 1855 in Perugia , † July 2, 1886 in Naples ) was an Italian mathematician who dealt with algebraic geometry of curves and surfaces and geometry.

Caporali studied at the University of Rome with Giuseppe Battaglini and Luigi Cremona , where he obtained his laureate degree in mathematics in 1875. After that he was a teacher for a few years before he became professor of geometry at the University of Naples in 1878 at the age of only 23 . In 1884 he was given a full professorship. He committed suicide two years later because he feared a decline in his creative abilities as a mathematician.

In 1878 he received the Mathematics Prize of the Accademia dei XL . He was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei and the Academy of Sciences in Naples.

Pasquale del Pezzo was his student. Some of his writings were published posthumously (Scritti geometrici, Naples: Pellerano 1888).
