Alphonse Dommergue

Alphonse Dommergue (born November 1, 1873 in Clavières , Cantal department , † June 25, 1954 in Saint-Flour ) was a French politician. From 1951 to 1954 he was a member of the National Assembly .

Life and career

Dommergue grew up near Saint-Flour, where he graduated from school before moving to Clermont-Ferrand to study . In 1903 he was licensed as a notary and then carried out this profession for many years. At the beginning of the First World War in 1914 he was drafted into the military, rose to the rank of captain in the course of the war and was accepted into the Legion of Honor for his services . After the war, he tried to get involved in politics and took part in the elections to the General Council in 1919 and 1922 , but was unsuccessful.

The first political function was transferred to Dommergue on September 1, 1944, when he was appointed to the provisional parish council of Saint-Flour after the end of the German occupation of France during the Second World War . In 1945 he was confirmed as a member of the municipal council in official elections and also elected mayor of the city, which he remained until 1953. Also in 1945 he succeeded in entering the General Council of the Cantal Department, where he had failed more than 20 years earlier. In the parliamentary elections in 1951, he ran on the list of the moderate right Center républicain d'action paysanne et sociale and made it into the National Assembly as runner-up, as his list won three seats in the Cantal department with 31.7 percent of the vote. The then 77-year-old was the fifth oldest member of parliament in this legislative period. In the National Assembly he was a member of the Commission for Internal Affairs and in 1953 was admitted to the Commission for Communications and Tourism. On December 13, 1951, he was among the majority of MPs who voted for the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community . Most recently he was unable to do his job for health reasons and died in 1954 at the age of 80 before his mandate expired.
