Eugène Debongnie

Édouard Eugène Joseph Ghislain Debongnie (born November 16, 1893 in Tourcoing ; † unknown) was a Franco-Belgian cyclist , aviation pioneer and entrepreneur.

Eugène Debongnie was a native of French . In 1905 he became French champion in the amateur sprint . At the rail world championships in Antwerp in the same year he took third place in the sprint. He then took on Belgian citizenship and competed in Athens at the Olympic Intermediate Games . He competed in three disciplines, took bronze in the sprint and came fifth in the time trial .

Debongnie was an engineer by profession. He founded a company in Oostduinkerke for the assembly of monoplane and the production of propellers. In 2009 a square in the Koksijde district of Nieuwport-aan-Zee was named after him.
