Eugène Turpin
François Eugène Turpin (* 1848 in Paris ; † January 24, 1927 in Pontoise ) was a French chemist who researched explosives. He lived in Colombes , near Paris.
He discovered the explosive properties of picric acid , which was the first detonating, explosive bullet filler and was used from 1886 as lyddite , ekrasite , schimose or melinite .
In October 1896, he felt slandered in Jules Verne's novel Face au drapeau ( The Invention of Perdition ) and initiated a lawsuit. Verne was defended by Raymond Poincaré and acquitted in December 1896 in the first instance and in March 1897 in the second instance.
