Eugenia Popa

Eugenia Popa (born September 10, 1973 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian gymnast .

She trained at Dinamo Bucharest, where Aurelia Dobre was doing gymnastics at the same time . Popa made her first major international appearance in 1988 when she won the silver medal on the balance beam at the European Junior Championships.

A year later Popa was one of the active players and won the silver medal in the team standings behind the Soviet Union with the Romanian gymnastics team with Cristina Bontaș , Aurelia Dobre , Lăcrămioara Filip , Gabriela Potorac and Daniela Silivaș at the World Championships in Stuttgart .

She won another medal in 1991. At the World Championships in Indianapolis, Popa was third with the Romanian team behind Russia and the USA. At the Olympic Games in 1992 she was a substitute gymnast, but was not used.

After her gymnastics career, Popa became a trainer. She first spent three years at Dinamo Bucharest and then went abroad, to England, the USA and finally to Northern Ireland.
