Cristina Bontaș
Cristina Bontaș (born December 5, 1973 in Ștefan cel Mare (Bacău) ) is a former Romanian artistic gymnast .
She started doing gymnastics at the age of seven. In 1989 Bontaş took part in the World Championships for the first time . In Stuttgart, she was runner-up in the team all-around competition and in the jump and also third on the ground. At the European Gymnastics Championships in the same year, she won bronze in jumping and on the ground.
In 1990 Bontaş was runner-up in jumping at the European Championships. The following year she was able to convince at the World Championships . On the ground, Bontaş was world champion ahead of Oksana Chusovitina . She also won bronze in team and individual all-around competitions.
In 1992 Bontaș took part in the Olympic Games . In Barcelona she won the silver medal with the Romanian team. In addition, she was in floor exercise, tied with Tetjana Guzu and Shannon Miller , bronze medalist.
After her competitive sports career, Bontaş married Gabi Tantaru. The two emigrated to Canada, where they opened a gymnastics school.
