Peter van Huffel

Peter van Huffel (* 6. September 1978 ) is a Canadian jazz - saxophonist - clarinetist and composer. He lives in Berlin .

Live and act

Van Huffel grew up in Kingston, Ontario . At the age of twelve he first learned the clarinet, but switched to the alto saxophone at the age of 13 . His career began in Toronto . From 2002 to 2008 he lived in New York City . During that time he made a name for himself in the local jazz scene . He is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music . In 2008 he moved to Berlin.

Van Huffel's saxophone playing is considered particularly intense and powerful, which is particularly evident in the recordings of his punk jazz trio Gorilla Mask . He works with his wife, the Belgian vocalist Sophie Tassignon, the Canadian- Ukrainian guitarist Alex Maksymiw, Andreas Willers and Oliver Steidle, among others . He also played with Chris Potter , Donny McCaslin , Dave Binney and Tony Malaby .
