Eugenio Lucas Velázquez
Eugenio Lucas Velázquez (also: Eugenio Lucas y Padilla; * February 9, 1817 in Madrid ; † September 11, 1870 there ) was a Spanish painter of war scenes, figures and frescoes .
Lucas Velázquez was a student at the Academy in Madrid. The late romantic was wrongly notorious for his imitations of Spanish masters (Velázquez and Goya ), who are not deliberate forgeries, but free reproductions. He created lively, dramatic composition. He was mostly inspired by Goya in the bullfighting , revolution , inquisition and similar portrayals. In the landscapes there is a reference to his brother-in-law G. Pérez Villaamil. His son Eugenio Lucas y Villaamil was also a painter who imitated his father and Goya.
