The Owl House (built between 1905 and 1907) is a house in Neuglobsow on the Stechlinsee , which was built in Art Nouveau style.

The builder Georg Ludwig Meyn is said to have said to the young architect Hauschtuk in 1904 when he was planning this summer house that “you shouldn't skimp on that” . Through a painting student, the professor, portrait painter and teacher at the Berlin Art Academy and his wife, the teacher Johanna Meyn, née. One, noticed Neuglobsow . At the moment of the signing of the contract for construction, an owl called. The house, built in the then modern Art Nouveau style , had found its name. Despite some renovations, this style is still decisive for the house today.

The frieze of the children playing on the street side of the house was the program: here the painter's children were supposed to spend happy summers in nature with fun and games. The three became enthusiastic supporters of Hans Georg Meyer and the singing "Red Roosters" in town.

The client Meyn (1859 to 1920) was a well-known artist at the time. He portrayed many famous personalities from culture, business and politics, including Friedrich Nietzsche , Geraldine Farrar , Frau von Klett-Cotta, Rudolph Virchow , Otto Ernst Hartleben , Hans Schliepmann , Geo Plate and Kaiser Wilhelm II .

The owl house has been a cultural meeting place in Neuglobsow and far beyond for decades . Relationships with the family included the poet Caesar Fleischlen ("Have sun in my heart whether it's storming or snowing"), the actor Josef Kainz , the poet and pacifist Armin T. Wegner , the politician, poet and resistance fighter Carlo Mierendorff . They were all guests in the owl house.

today

The current owners, descendants of the famous painter, feel obliged to the tradition of this house and continue it in this spirit.
