Caesar Otto Hugo Flaischlen (born May 12, 1864 in Stuttgart ; † October 16, 1920 in the Horneck sanatorium in Gundelsheim ) was a well-known lyric poet and dialect poet at the beginning of the 20th century .

Life

Flaischlen was the son of Major Gottlieb Friedrich Flaischlen and his wife Antonie Clara nee. Sun calf. After completing his school days (Gymnasium Ellwangen, Karlsgymnasium Stuttgart ), Flaischlen began an apprenticeship as a bookseller in the Metzler'schen Buchhandlung (Stuttgart) in 1880 at the age of 16.

In 1883 Flaischlen successfully completed his initial training and began to study German and philosophy at the universities of Berlin and Heidelberg . In 1889 Flaischlen finished his studies at the University of Leipzig with a doctorate on the writer Otto Heinrich von Gemmingen .

In 1891 Flaischlen settled in Berlin. Enthusiastic about naturalism , his works Toni Stürmer (1891), Martin Lehnhardt (1895) a. a. In 1895 he got a job as an editor at the art and literary magazine Pan and stayed in that position until 1900 the magazine was discontinued. From 1902 to 1907 he was co-editor of the respected monthly Kunst und Künstler , which was published by Bruno Cassirer in Berlin until 1933 .

In 1905 he was able to publish his autobiographical novel Jost Seyfried . With this work, Flaischlen caused a sensation because it was not a novel in the conventional sense, but a seemingly arbitrary stringing together of rhythmic prose with interspersed aphorisms , epigrams, etc. Flaischlen's enthusiasm for modern impressionism can already be seen here , without consciously turning away from naturalism would have.

Flaischlen's volumes of poetry in Swabian dialect, such as Von Derhoim and Drauße u. a.

In 1910 Flaischlen married Edith Klapp in Hamburg . Around 1915 he retired to Ingelfingen with his wife . After the First World War , his volume of poems From Everyday Life and the Sun enjoyed great popularity.

On October 16, 1920 Caesar Flaischlen died at the age of 56 in the Horneck sanatorium near Gundelsheim. He was buried in an honorary grave in the Stuttgart Prague cemetery (front part, in front of the crematorium) and is largely forgotten today.

Example of his poetry

Version of "Have sun in my heart" on a wall hanging
Have sun in my heart
According to the melody: May has come.
Have sun in my heart
whether it storms or snows,
whether the sky is full of clouds
the earth full of strife!
Have sun in my heart
then come what may!
that shines full of light for you
the darkest day!
Got a song on my lips
with a happy sound
and also does everyday life
Crowd you bang!
Got a song on my lips
then come what may!
that helps you get over it
the loneliest day!
Have a word for Andre too
in sorrows and torments
and say what yourself
be so cheerful:
Got a song on my lips
never lose heart
have sun in my heart
and everything will be fine!
