description
The succulent Euphorbia abyssinica forms trees up to 9 meters high. The ascending branches form a dense crown. Seedlings have an approximately octagonal shape, the branches of adult plants are usually square and up to 6 centimeters wide. They are provided with egg-shaped constrictions that are 15 centimeters long and the edges are covered with light, wavy teeth that are 12 millimeters apart. The individual and corking thorn shields are triangular in shape and are 10 millimeters wide and 7 millimeters long. Thorns up to 5 millimeters long are formed.
The inflorescence consists of simple cymes , one to five pieces together on a thick 5 millimeter long stalk. The cyathium reaches 12 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are colored yellow and almost touch each other. The ovary is provided with a toothed three-lobed flower cover. The almost spherical and white colored fruit is about 15 millimeters wide and 20 millimeters long. It is fleshy and turns red as it ripens, hardens and later has deep lobes. The smooth seed is 4.5 millimeters long and 3.7 millimeters wide and is spherical.
