Euphorbia Antso is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia antso forms trees 5 to 15 meters high. The lanceolate leaves are close together on the shoot tips of the soft woody branches. They are short-lived and grow to be 9 inches long and 1.5 inches wide.
The inflorescence consists of a three- to five-rayed umbel, which is arranged around a sitting cyathium . There are 5 to 8 yellowish, about 2 centimeters long bracts formed at the base of the inflorescence, of which the upper are triangular shaped. The cyathia grow to a size of about 1 centimeter. 2 to 3 slightly tubular nectar glands are formed, which stand individually and are colored red. The deeply lobed fruit reaches a diameter of 20 millimeters. The spherical seed is 10 millimeters in size.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia antso is endemic to the west and south-west of Madagascar . The species is on the IUCN Red List and is not considered to be endangered (Least Concern).
The species was first described in 1921 by Marcel Denis .
