Euphorbia arbuscula is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia arbuscula forms trees up to 6 meters high. On the cylindrical and gray-green shoots there are short-lived, scale-like leaves.
There are seated cymene formed that are very close together at the growing tips. The cyathia , up to about 3 millimeters in size, are covered with hair. The nectar glands are elongated and the deeply lobed fruits are about 7.5 millimeters wide and 8 millimeters long. They stand on an 8 millimeter long and bent back handle. The spherical and smooth seed is about 6 millimeters in size and has an appendage .
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia arbuscula is widespread in Yemen on the Socotra archipelago . The species is on the IUCN Red List and is considered to be Near Threatened.
The species was first described in 1888 by Isaac Bayley Balfour . A synonym is Tirucallia arbuscula (Balf.f.) PVHeath (1996).
A distinction is made between the following varieties:
- Euphorbia arbuscula var. Arbuscula
- Euphorbia arbuscula var. Montana Balf.f. ; In contrast to the stem species, it only forms shrubs up to 2 meters in height, where the shoots are thicker and shorter; the fruit stands on a 6 millimeter long stem, is smaller and only 5 millimeters wide and 6 millimeters long
