Euphorbia asthenacantha is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia asthenacantha forms little branched shrubs with short rhizomes . The up to 15 centimeters long shoots have four straight edges and are about 6 millimeters thick. They are gray-green in color and covered with a few spots. The very narrow thorn shields are up to 11 millimeters long and almost touch each other. Very small thorns up to 2 millimeters long and even smaller stipple thorns are formed.

The simple and individual cymes are on a stalk up to 5 millimeters long. The narrow, funnel-shaped cyathia reach 3.75 millimeters in diameter and the rounded nectar glands stand individually and are colored yellow. The stylus and stamens protrude 6 millimeters from the flower. The bluntly lobed fruit is almost sessile and is about 3 millimeters wide and 4 millimeters long. The spherical seed is about 2 millimeters in size and is covered with very small warts.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia asthenacantha is distributed in Tanzania in the Kigoma district on rocks at altitudes of 1500 meters.

The species was first described in 1982 by Susan Carter Holmes .
